May 29, 2009:   Power Cut Withdrawal - HT Consumers

Tamilnadu Electricity Board has announced total withdrawal of power cut for LT and LTCT Industries and reduction in Maximum Demand cut from 40% to 30% to HT Consumers.

However we regret to note that the power cut is continuing in other forms and the losers are the Industry.

For example for all consumers including domestic consumers TNEB has reintroduced 2 hours daily load shedding, which had been withdrawn on 5th May. The result is increase in power cut by 8% for the HT Industry in addition to the existing 30% and for the LT and LTCT consumers it is bad news as they cannot afford to keep the workforce idle during the 2 hour period.

The HT consumers have to pay Maximum Demand charges for 70% of the sanctioned load even while they get power only for 18 hours in a day if the peak hour is taken into account.

Even the LTCT consumers have been asked not to run during the peak hours though the Government has categorically announced that there is no power cut for this sector.

When the Hon’ble Minister for Electricity has announced that the power situation had drastically improved, it is surprising to note that the two hour load shedding, peak hour restrictions continue.

We appeal to the Tamilnadu Electricity Board to issue clarification in the matter and withdraw the two hour unscheduled power cut and peak hour restriction.
