June 30, 2010: Southern Railway Announcement
On behalf of Trade, Industry and people of this region, The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Coimbatore welcomes the announcements of General Manager, Southern Railway that a day time Duronto train between Chennai and Coimbatore would commence running shortly and this train will not stop anywhere in between, and this will run on six days except Tuesdays.
The introduction of Coimbatore and Tirupathi intercity express (Tri-weekly) via Salem is also a welcome measure and would benefit the people of this region to a greater extent.
Introduction of new Electric train between Coimbatore and Erode on all days except Sunday will cater to the needs of people who travel between these destinations for employment.
However, the long pending plea of people of this region for introduction of an over night express train between Coimbatore and Bangalore, running of trains to Thiruvananthapuram, trains between Coimbatore and the Cities on the East coast of Tamil Nadu and trains to Madurai have not been considered.
While we appeal to the Hon’ble Railway Minister and General Manager Southern Railways to initiate action for early commencement of running of Duronto express between Chennai and Coimbatore and also intercity express between Coimbatore and Thirupathi, we also request the railways to fulfill the Railway requirements of people of this region atleast in due course.
