The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore whole heartedly welcomes the announcements made by the Hon'ble Union Railway Minister in the Railway Budget 2012-2013.
We sincerely thank and appreciate the Hon'ble Minister for his mention in his Railway Budget speech for considering the requests of Chambers of Commerce for their railway requirements.
We welcome the following features and positive announcements of the Hon'ble Railway Minister considering of our appeals favourably in the interest of Coimbatoreans.
a) Announcement for upgradation of Coimbatore Junction as Adarsh Railway Station
b) Electrification of Coimbatore - Mettupalayam sector
c) Introduction of new Electric train for Palakkad - Coimbatore - Erode sector
d) Introduction of a train from Coimbatore to Bikaner via Kongan Railways
e) Extension of Palakkad - Mangalore train up to Coimbatore
f) Extension of Coimbatore - Erode train up to Salem
g) Daily running of Bangalore - Kochuveli via Coimbatore instead of weekly twice
h) Introduction of Tirunelveli - Dadar express via Coimbatore
We also welcome the safety measures announced in the Budget. Modernization of the signals will increase the speed of the trains.
However, we re-iterate our appeal to the Hon'ble Minister to consider our long pending plea for introduction of an over night express train between Coimbatore and Bangalore and also for extension of Amritha Express upto Mettupalayam.
Chamber hopes that the Railway Minister will fulfill the Railway requirements of people of Coimbatore region in the years to come.
